GA Coaches suspended for violating Integrity Code of Conduct.

The Ghana Athletics Association, has suspended two coaches with immediate effect following allegations of abuse and exploitation of athletes, including minors. Wisdom Loh and Jeffrey Nkrumah have been barred from all GA-related activities, domestically and internationally, pending a full investigation.

In a statement the Ghana Athletics Association cited violations of the World Athletics Integrity Code of Conduct (Article 3.3.17), citing the two Coaches of undermining the authority of the federation and engaging in actions that bring disrepute to the sport. The investigation will also probe whether their conduct facilitated the exploitation of Ghanaian athletes, locally and abroad.

The Ghana Athletics Association indicates that it is committed to safeguarding athletes, aligning with World Athletics’ policies against exploitation and abuse. It said allegations, particularly those involving minors, are shocking and embarrassing. One case, described as bordering on criminality, has been escalated to the World Athletics for further guidance. Recent reports have highlighted a troubling pattern of abuse in school athletics programs, with some victims allegedly left traumatized or left impregnated.

The Ghana Athletics Association has therefore vowed to address these systemic issues, stating, safeguarding violations breach national and international laws, as well as the human rights of athletes.

The federation warned athletes, coaches, and officials against collaborating with suspended individuals during the investigation, stating that such interactions could result in sanctions, including being banned from the Association’s events. The Ghana Athletics Association President, Bawah Fuseini reiterated the organization’s dedication to ethical standards, saying its priority is to protect athletes and restore trust in Ghana athletics.
