Vice President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang has opened the 74th Annual Council Meeting of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), which was hosted by Ghana this year. I commended member governments for their continued commitment to sustaining this vital regional institution.

WAEC remains one of the most productive examples of regional cooperation, playing a critical role in shaping the human capital of participating countries and maintaining high educational standards. I urged the Council to continue upholding its credibility and integrity, particularly by addressing examination malpractice through collective responsibility involving schools, communities, and stakeholders, in line with the President’s call to safeguard our societies.
As part of the ceremony, I presented awards to outstanding students who excelled in the WASSCE for School Candidates, 2025. The first 3 awardees are young Ghanaian ladies, whose excellence reflects the promise of our nation. I congratulate them, their parents, teachers, and communities, and encourage other students to draw inspiration from their achievements.
Ghana remains firmly committed to upholding the highest standards of education and will continue to work closely with WAEC to strengthen assessment systems, protect the integrity of examinations, and ensure that our educational outcomes meet global standards in service of national and regional development.
