Rebecca Ekpe Marks One Year as GJA Vice President with Focus on Press Freedom and Professional Development

Rebecca Ekpe has completed one year in office as Vice President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), a period marked by advocacy for press freedom, professional development, media ethics and the welfare of journalists across the country.
Since assuming office, Ekpe has played a key role in supporting the leadership of the Association while championing initiatives aimed at strengthening journalism in Ghana. She has represented the GJA at several national events, consistently advocating for a media environment that enables journalists to work freely, safely and professionally.
Throughout the year, she has been vocal on issues affecting media practitioners, including attacks on journalists, workplace safety, ethical reporting and continuous capacity building. Her engagements have highlighted the importance of responsible journalism in promoting democracy, accountability and national development.
Ekpe has also participated in media training programmes, workshops and public discussions designed to equip journalists with the skills needed to navigate the rapidly changing media landscape. She has encouraged media professionals, particularly young journalists, to uphold accuracy, fairness and integrity in their work.

During the celebration of international media events such as World Radio Day and World Press Freedom Day, the GJA Vice President reiterated the critical role of journalism in safeguarding democratic governance and ensuring citizens have access to credible information.
Colleagues within the Association have acknowledged her commitment to promoting professionalism and strengthening the image of the GJA through active engagement with members and stakeholders.

As she begins her second year in office, expectations remain high that her continued efforts will contribute to a stronger, more resilient and ethical media landscape, reinforcing the Ghana Journalists Association’s mission of promoting excellence and protecting the rights of journalists nationwide.
