Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Free Zones Authority Dr. Mary Awusi on Friday, 20th February 2026, joined His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, and other distinguished guests for the commissioning of the Steel Ball Mill and Section Mill (SBMS) Manufacturing Plant of B5 Plus Ltd. at Larkpleku in Prampram, within the Ningo-Prampram enclave.

The event marked a major milestone in Ghana’s drive towards industrial self-reliance and value addition in the steel sector. The commissioning, performed by President Mahama, brought together traditional authorities, industry stakeholders, government representatives, and members of the diplomatic community — a clear testament to the importance of this investment to our national development agenda.
In his keynote address, the President underscored the critical role of a strong domestic steel industry in achieving Ghana’s infrastructure ambitions under the government’s “Big Push” programme. He also emphasized how key initiatives such as the 24-Hour Economy Programme are designed to enhance industrial productivity and competitiveness, particularly for energy-intensive sectors like steel manufacturing.
Dr Awusi said she was particularly inspired by the remarks of the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, who highlighted the significance of this Phase II expansion as a major boost to Ghana’s industrial transformation. Her insights on the Feed the Industry Programme, which prioritizes the use of locally available raw materials such as scrap metals, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sustainable industrial growth and value retention within our economy.
Dr Awusi commend the Samuel Nartey George, Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram and Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, for his advocacy for improved and reliable power supply to support the continued growth of the industrial enclave.
The commissioning of the SBMS Plant is not only a celebration of B5 Plus Ltd.’s vision and resilience but also a clear demonstration of how Ghana’s Free Zones regime continues to attract impactful investments that create jobs, expand manufacturing capacity, and drive our broader industrialization agenda.
Dr. Awusi was accompanied to the ceremony by the Deputy Chief Executive Officer in charge of Administration and Finance, Mr. Musah Sibiri Hamidu, as well as Directors and officers of the Authority. Together, we reaffirmed our unwavering commitment to supporting enterprises operating within the Free Zones to thrive and contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s economic transformation.
