Global Forum of Networks information sharing session.

With the support of the European Union, a dedicated side event brought together over 50 participants, including 9 presidents of regulatory authorities and key leaders from the Global Forum of Networks (GFN), including ACRAN and REFRAM, and the I4T Knowledge Network. The meeting provided a critical space for multistakeholder dialogue, progress assessment, and collaborative implementation of the Guidelines for the Governance of Digital Platforms.

Participants reflected on key challenges — such as gaps in MIL and AI literacy, the need to address language diversity, and the absence of institutionalized content curation in African languages that affect regional information integrity.

Despite these obstacles, opportunities emerged. Participants highlighted initiatives to build capacity, promote stronger cooperation across regulators and civil society, and foster more open dialogue with digital platforms. These efforts support the vision of UNESCO Internet for Trust’s rights-based and inclusive platform governance in the region and beyond.

A special thanks to the participation and valuable contribution of the GFN, I4T Knowledge Network and all the Internet for Trust community in West Africa and the Sahel.
