The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has given the NDC Central Regional Chairman, Mr. Richard Asiedu, a seven-day ultimatum to take steps to restore confidence in Ghana’s democratic and media environment following the alleged attack on Obaatanpa Radio.

The GJA is demanding that Mr. Asiedu publicly admit wrongdoing, acknowledge that his actions undermined press freedom, and issue an unqualified apology to Obaatanpa Radio and the wider media fraternity.

The Association is also asking him to compensate the station for revenue lost during the closure and report himself, together with all persons who accompanied him to the station, to the appropriate Police authorities for investigation and due process.

The GJA says failure to comply within the stipulated period will compel it to escalate the matter, describing the conduct as a direct attack on press freedom.

It added that it would declare Mr. Asiedu an enemy of press freedom and pursue all lawful criminal and civil actions against him and others involved to ensure accountability and prevent intimidation of the media.
