As part of the commitment to promoting a culture of dialogue and non-violence, the Volta Regional Peace Council continued its commitment to nurturing a culture of peace by engaging students at Ho Technical Institute, Ziavi Senior High Technical School, and Abutia Senior High Technical School in a series of Peace Education Programmes under the theme “Understanding Conflict and Building Peaceful Co-existence.”
Addressing the students, members of the Volta Regional Peace Council emphasized that while technical knowledge and academic excellence open doors, qualities such as integrity, discipline, respect, and the ability to resolve disagreements peacefully are what sustain success in school, the workplace, and society.SHS Students in Volta Region.
The sessions explored practical approaches to managing conflict through dialogue, active listening, negotiation, and peer mediation, while encouraging students to reject bullying, rumours, intimidation, discrimination, and every form of violence that threatens harmony within schools.
A key highlight of the engagements was the call for students to become Peace Ambassadors—young leaders who inspire positive change not by the loudness of their voices, but by the strength of their character. Students were encouraged to choose understanding over confrontation, cooperation over division, and respect over prejudice, recognizing that every act of kindness and every peaceful decision contributes to a safer learning environment.
The programmes also highlighted the importance of creating schools where everyone feels valued and respected, regardless of gender or background. Students were challenged to stand against harassment, promote inclusion, support one another, and help build campuses where diversity is celebrated and every individual can thrive.
