President Mahama tells Chiefs and people of Bawku to give peace a chance

President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his call on the chiefs and people of Bawku in the Upper East Region to give peace a chance, saying peace can and peace must reign in Bawku and its surrounding areas. He expressed gratitude to the Asantehene, Otumfour Osei Tutu, for the commencement of his mediation efforts to find lasting solution to the Bawku conflict and appealed to all the parties to consider the proposals put before them with an open mind and return to the negotiations in good faith when they resume in two weeks. President Mahama said this when he took his nationwide thank you visits to the Upper East region. He used the occasion to condemn the killing of a military officer in Bawku and equally condemn the reprisal attack by the military on civilians.

President Mahama said his government is committed to implementing inclusive development, calling on Ghanaians to value and cherish peace to propel development in conflict areas.

Development projects for Upper East Region

Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has announced a raft of development projects his government has outlined for implementation in the Upper East region. These include the construction of an airport through a Public-Private Partnership, and the completion of the Bolgatanga- Bawku-Pulmakom and commencement of work on other road projects to boost transportation of goods and people and open up the region.

On Pwalugu multipurpose dam, President Mahama said it has become a crime scene with about 12 million dollars spent and there is nothing to show for it. He said investigation has begun into the project and asked the Minister of Finance to evaluate the project for it to be included in the government’s Big Push programme.
