The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has urged stakeholders in Ghana’s creative industry to adopt more formalised and structured engagement with the Ministry as preparations intensify for the upcoming World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Conference on Intellectual Property scheduled for June.

Minister Pushes Structured Stakeholder Engagement Ahead of WIPO Conference.
Speaking during a meeting with representatives of Writers Project Ghana, Nubuke Foundation and Foundation for Contemporary Art Ghana, the Minister stressed the importance of written submissions, official documentation and coordinated communication in strengthening collaboration between government and the creative sector.
According to Hon. Gomashie, structured documentation is critical to preserving institutional memory, improving policy continuity and ensuring that contributions from industry players are effectively captured in national development processes.
She noted that stronger engagement mechanisms would also help position Ghana’s creative industry more strategically on the global stage, particularly in discussions surrounding intellectual property protection, cultural exports and creative economy growth.
The meeting formed part of broader consultations ahead of the June WIPO Conference, which is expected to bring together policymakers, creatives and intellectual property experts to discuss emerging opportunities and challenges within the global creative ecosystem.
Representatives of the participating organisations highlighted their longstanding contributions to Ghana’s literary, cultural and visual arts development, while reaffirming their commitment to partnering with the Ministry to expand the reach, visibility and competitiveness of Ghanaian creative works internationally.
The stakeholders also underscored the need for stronger policy support, sustained investment and enhanced intellectual property protections to empower artists, writers and creative entrepreneurs across the country.
The engagement reflects growing efforts by the Ministry to deepen collaboration with key players in Ghana’s creative and cultural industries as the sector continues to gain recognition as an important driver of economic growth, innovation and national identity.
