Inter Tourism Expo and Mentorship Program Unite to Train Journalists in Tourism, Hospitality and Business Reporting

Accra is set to become a hub of inspiration and professional renewal as journalists, content creators, and media practitioners gather on April 30, 2026, for a transformative training program focused on tourism, hospitality, and business reporting. Under the theme “Building a Strong Tourism Press Corps in Ghana,” the initiative signals a bold step toward redefining how Ghana tells its story to the world.

Organized by Inter Tourism Expo Accra in collaboration with the Rebecca Ekpe Mentorship Program for Journalists and Content Creators, and supported by Edern Garden Hotel, the training is more than a workshop—it is a movement to reshape narratives and unlock opportunities within Ghana’s tourism sector.

Participants will be immersed in practical, hands-on sessions designed to sharpen their skills in destination storytelling, digital media innovation, tourism branding, and the business dynamics of the hospitality industry. The goal is clear: to move beyond routine reporting and cultivate a generation of storytellers capable of capturing the richness, diversity, and investment potential of Ghana.

Chief Executive Officer of Inter Tourism Expo Accra, Emmanuel Treku, underscored the urgency of this shift. “The future of Ghana’s tourism growth depends not only on the quality of our destinations, but on how effectively we tell our stories to the world,” he said. “Strategic storytelling has become one of the most powerful tools for destination marketing, investment attraction, and brand positioning.”

He emphasized that equipping journalists with specialized knowledge will enable them to produce compelling narratives that drive visibility and, ultimately, economic growth. “Storytelling drives visibility, and visibility drives arrivals, partnerships, and investment flows,” he added.

Echoing this vision, Vice President of the Ghana Journalists Association and Founder of the mentorship program, Rebecca Ekpe, highlighted the broader national significance of the initiative. “Ghana stands at a pivotal moment in its economic transformation, where tourism has the potential to become the nation’s leading contributor to GDP,” she noted. “Achieving this requires a deliberate and strategic approach to how we communicate our rich cultural and tourism assets.”

She stressed that the creation of a dedicated Tourism Press Corps will be instrumental in elevating both journalism standards and national development. “It will ensure that Ghana’s tourism stories are told with depth, creativity, and strategic intent—shifting from basic reporting to impactful storytelling that attracts visitors and investors alike,” she said.

Beyond skills acquisition, the training represents a collective vision—to build a vibrant, organized network of media professionals committed to showcasing Ghana as a compelling, investment-ready destination on the global stage.

As the country continues to position tourism as a pillar of economic growth, initiatives like this serve as a reminder that the stories told today will shape the perceptions—and possibilities—of tomorrow.

Journalists, bloggers, and media professionals are encouraged to seize this opportunity to be part of a pioneering effort to redefine tourism storytelling in Ghana and contribute meaningfully to the country’s global image and economic future.
