The Government of Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Team Ghana as the country prepares to compete at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, with a high-level delegation meeting athletes ahead of the official opening ceremony on 23 July 2026.
Leading the delegation, the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddi Adams, joined Ghana’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and Ireland, H.E. Mrs Sabah Zita Benson, to encourage the athletes and assure them of the government’s unwavering support as they represent the nation on the international stage.

The visit underscored Ghana’s determination to inspire sporting excellence and foster national pride through strong performances at one of the Commonwealth’s premier multi-sport events.
Also present were members of Parliament’s Select Committee on Youth and Sports, led by Chairman Hon. Ernest Henry Norgbey, Ranking Member Hon. Vincent Ekow Assafuah, and Hon. Lawrencia Dziwornu, Member of Parliament for Akuapem South.
They were joined by the President of the Commonwealth Games Association of Ghana, Mr Richard Akpokavie, Chef de Mission, Mr Ernest Danso, and officials of the Ghana Olympic Committee, who collectively pledged their support to the athletes throughout the competition.
Addressing Team Ghana, the delegation rallied the athletes around the campaign theme, “The 3Gs: From Ghana to Glasgow for Gold,” urging them to compete with discipline, determination and confidence while proudly carrying the nation’s flag.
The officials encouraged the team to strive for excellence, reminding them that their performances would not only bring honour to Ghana but also inspire a new generation of young athletes to pursue sporting success.
They emphasised that representing Ghana at the Commonwealth Games is both a privilege and a responsibility, calling on the athletes to demonstrate resilience, sportsmanship and unity throughout the competition.
The morale-boosting engagement reflected the government’s broader commitment to investing in sports development and creating opportunities for Ghanaian athletes to excel on the global stage.
As the Games get underway, Team Ghana heads into the competition with renewed confidence, carrying the hopes of a nation determined to see its athletes achieve podium success and further elevate Ghana’s reputation in international sport.
