The visit, which took place earlier today, forms part of a broader assessment of progress on the Dualization of the Winneba–Cape Coast Road Project, particularly Lot 2 (Winneba–Mankessim, 24km).

Officials from the Ministry of Roads and Highways reported that the project, which commenced in December 2025, is currently 25 percent complete and remains on track for its scheduled completion in November 2027.

Progress and Scope of Work

Engineers on site confirmed that major foundational works have been completed, including:

  • Site clearing and vegetation removal
  • Construction of major culverts and drainage systems

Ongoing works include:

  • Subbase and base formation
  • Construction of two key interchanges at Apam Junction and Otaw

The full scope of the նախագ includes asphaltic surfacing, pedestrian underpasses, street lighting, bus stops, and installation of road furniture to improve safety and efficiency.

Mahama: “This is About People and Productivity”

Speaking during the inspection, President Mahama underscored the strategic importance of the project:

“This road is not just about infrastructure; it is about people, productivity, and the future of our economy. We are determined to ensure that every kilometre completed translates into real relief for commuters and businesses.”

He emphasized that improved road networks remain central to government’s development agenda:

“Efficient transport systems are the backbone of national growth. This corridor is vital for trade, tourism, and regional integration, and we will ensure it is delivered on schedule.”

Relief for Motorists, Boost for Coastal Economy

The dualization project is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Kasoa, Winneba, and Cape Coast—a route often plagued by heavy traffic congestion.

According to the Roads Ministry, the completed highway will:

  • Improve traffic flow along the busy Accra–Cape Coast corridor
  • Enhance road safety through modern interchanges and pedestrian crossings
  • Facilitate tourism and commercial activity in the Central Region

A senior project engineer noted:

“Once completed, this road will transform mobility along the road. It will not only ease congestion but also open up economic opportunities for communities along the route.”

Strategic National Investment

The Kasoa–Winneba–Cape Coast road forms part of Ghana’s broader infrastructure modernization programme aimed at strengthening connectivity between major urban and economic hubs.

For residents and commuters, the impact is already becoming visible, as sections under construction begin to take shape.

As President Mahama concluded his tour, he reiterated government’s resolve:

“We are building not just roads, but pathways to opportunity, growth, and national transformation.”
