The Vice President of the Ghana Journalists Association, GJA, Rebecca Ekpe, has called on journalists and media practitioners to remain vigilant against the dangers of misinformation and disinformation. She stressed that responsible journalism is critical to safeguarding peace and the country’s development. Madam Ekpe made this known at the third edition of the Bono and Ahafo GJA Awards in Abesim, near Sunyani in the Bono Region. She warned that allowing media platforms to be misused, undermines national cohesion and progress.

Speaking on behalf of the President of GJA, the Vice President, Rebecca Ekpe, called on journalists and media practitioners to remain vigilant against the dangers of misinformation, disinformation, and mal information, stressing that responsible journalism is critical to safeguarding peace and development in Ghana.
‘’Media owners and Journalists should be concerned about misinformation, because it is a threat to Ghana’s development’’.
This year’s awards focused on The Role of the Media as a Tool for Promoting Development in the Bono and Ahafo Regions. Delivering her address, Bono and Ahafo Regional GJA Chairperson, Mrs. Regina Benneh Siaw, underscored the media’s responsibility in advancing peace, unity, and social cohesion, while urging practitioners to uphold professional ethics.

The Guest Speaker, Bishop Dr. Owusu Acheaw, also raised concerns about handling sensitive issues in the media, particularly chieftaincy disputes, which he noted are on the rise in the Bono and Ahafo Regions.

The night was climaxed with recognition of outstanding journalists who distinguished themselves in 2024. Ali Biiya Mukusah of Graphic Communications Group Limited emerged as the star of the night, sweeping four awards including Overall Best Journalist, Best Newspaper Reporter, Best Political Reporter, and Best Agroecology Reporter. Madam Ekpe presented the overall awards to Ali Biiya Mukasah on behalf of the GJA President, Albert Dumfour.
