The President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Mr Albert Kwabena Dwumfour delivered an address during the GJA’s 2025 Press Freedom and Honour Night celebration held at the Alisa Hotel in Accra on May 2.
The event brought together journalists, media stakeholders, and dignitaries to commemorate World Press Freedom Day and to recognize excellence in journalism. In his speech, the GJA President highlighted the importance of safeguarding press freedom in Ghana, emphasizing the media’s vital role in promoting democracy, transparency, and accountability.
He also called for stronger protections for journalists and renewed efforts to combat threats and intimidation faced by media professionals in the line of duty. The president urged media houses to uphold ethical standards and responsible reporting, especially in the lead-up to the 2024 general elections.
The Honour Night also served as an occasion to celebrate outstanding contributions to the media landscape, though specific awardees were not immediately disclosed.
The celebration underscored the GJA’s continued commitment to promoting a free and responsible press in Ghana.
