Held under the theme “Human Trafficking Can End: The Time is Now – Blow the Whistle on Sports Trafficking,” the launch marked the start of a nationwide awareness campaign leading to the national commemoration on 30 July, World Day Against Trafficking in Persons.
The campaign aims to mobilize collective action against human trafficking, particularly the exploitation of young people through fraudulent sports opportunities during major global sporting events such as the #FIFAWorldCup2026.
Bringing together government institutions, media practitioners, civil society, youth advocates, and development partners, the event reinforced the importance of strengthening awareness, enhancing coordination, and empowering communities to speak up against trafficking and exploitation.
As part of the launch, IOM presented findings from the National Baseline Survey on Human Trafficking in Sports, highlighting emerging trends, vulnerabilities, and the urgent need for strengthened prevention and protection measures within the sports sector.
IOM Ghana remains committed to advancing prevention efforts, strengthening protection and support for victims, and promoting safe migration pathways as part of ongoing efforts to combat human trafficking in all its forms.
