Peace education for Students in Ashanti Region of Ghana highlights dangers of violence
The Ashanti Regional Peace Council in collaboration with the Small Arms Commission, Ghana, organized a Peace Education and Sensitization Programme for students of #Nasiriya Islamic Basic School in the Ashanti Region.
The programme aimed at promoting peaceful coexistence among students, educating them on the dangers of violence, and creating awareness on the consequences of the illegal possession and use of small arms and light weapons.
Addressing over 150 students, the Ashanti Regional Executive Secretary of the National Peace Council, Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Badu Amoah, encouraged students to embrace dialogue, tolerance, patience, and self-control in resolving disagreements peacefully instead of resorting to violence.
The Regional Director of SALW, Mr. Emmanuel Kenneth Oduro, also cautioned students against the unlawful possession and use of firearms, stressing that illegal weapons in schools pose serious threats to peace, security, and the safety of students and teachers.
The initiative also seeks to establish Peace Ambassadors Clubs in schools to help nurture responsible young peacebuilders in the region.
