Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has called for a strategic shift from raw shea exports to value-added production, as she opened the SHEA 2026 conference, highlighting the sector’s critical role in job creation, women’s livelihoods and Ghana’s industrial growth agenda.

Vice President advocates Shea Butter as value added export for women’s empowerment. The conference, organised by the Global Shea Alliance with support from the 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Secretariat, brought together participants from 21 African countries and international partners, marking over 15 years of collaboration to strengthen the shea value chain.

She emphasised that positioning Ghana to capture greater value through processing, innovation and expanded market access would be key to sustaining growth, while protecting shea parklands and supporting farmers, particularly women, across the savannah ecological zones.
