The United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office in Ghana, led by Resident Coordinator H.E. Zia Choudhury, had the distinct privilege of engaging with postgraduate students of the Legon Centre for International Affairs and Diplomacy, University of Ghana, Legon, in a rich and thought provoking dialogue on the topic “Is the United Nations helpless in tackling today’s global challenges?”

The session became a dynamic exchange of constructive ideas. Students offered sharp analysis, candid questions and great perspectives, thoughtfully challenging the UN’s relevance and impact within today’s complex global landscape and demonstrating impressive critical thinking and intellectual curiosity.
For the RCO team, the engagement was energizing. It reaffirmed the value of open dialogue with emerging scholars of international affairs who are preparing to shape the future of multilateralism through informed debate and critical thinking.
At the conclusion of the two-hour session, the fifty plus students shared a thoughtful consensus that the United Nations remains true to its founding purpose and continues to play a vital role in global cooperation and peace. However, they emphasized that the institution must evolve, calling for reforms that ensure more equitable access, stronger representation and a greater voice for all Member States.
In their view, a restructured and more inclusive UN is essential to respond effectively to today’s global realities and to better serve the world in the current context. #UNinGhana
