The Past OLA Girls Association (POGA) has appealed to all former students of OLA Girls’ Senior High School living in Tema and nearby communities to reconnect and help rebuild the association’s Tema branch after years of inactivity caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking during a Thanksgiving Mass at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Tema Community, Mrs. Ruby Martha Tawiah, the Global First Vice President of POGA and President of the Tema branch, explained that the gathering formed part of renewed efforts to restore and strengthen the association’s activities in Tema.

According to her, before the outbreak of COVID-19, the Tema branch held regular meetings alternately at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church and Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. However, restrictions introduced during the pandemic forced the group to move its meetings online.

“We resorted to having our meetings online after COVID-19,” she stated, adding that the long break negatively affected participation and membership.

“Since then, our membership has gone down due to the break and some of our members relocating,” Mrs. Tawiah noted.

She further highlighted the global reach of the association, explaining that POGA consists of Old Girls from Ghana, the United Kingdom, and North America, where members operate under the name POGANA.

Mrs. Tawiah also paid tribute to the late Mrs. Florence Ayivor Attachie, affectionately called “Mama POGA,” in recognition of her significant contributions and dedication to the Tema branch of the association.
