Gender Ministry on monitoring of LEAP Disbursements
In a bid to strengthen social protection delivery and ensure that support reaches the intended beneficiaries, the Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has since last week commenced a nationwide monitoring exercise for the 100th cycle of the regular Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) payments across all regions of the country.

The exercise which is still ongoing in LEAP beneficiary communities within the 16 regions, is aimed at reinforcing transparency, accountability and effectiveness in the disbursement of cash grants under the Programme.
Monitoring teams drawn from the Ministry and its partner institutions are touring selected payment centres to supervise the payment process, interact with beneficiaries and obtain firet-hand feedback on service delivery.
The teams are also engaging district authorities and community leaders to improve coordination and strengthen the overall implementation of the LEAP initiative.
Beyond observing the disbursement process, the teams are conducting short educational sessions on important social protection issues, child protection and the appropriate use of LEAP funds. Beneficiaries are being advised to utilise the grants to meet critical household needs such as healthcare, education and proper nutrition.
The LEAP Programme continues to serve as a cornerstone of Ghana’s social protection framework, providing bi-monthly cash support to older persons without support, persons with severe disabilities who are unable to work, orphaned and vulnerable children. The intervention is designed to enhance the well-being of extremely poor households and advance social inclusion across the country.
