Mr Justice Dzamefe,  one of the seven newly inaugurated Supreme Court Judges, has on behalf of his colleagues, promised to deliver justice to all manner of persons.

Speaking on behalf of his colleagues moments after they were sworn-in into office by President John Dramani Mahama at the Presidency in Accra, Mr Dzamefe expressed gratitude to the President for appointing them as Justices of the Supreme Court as per Article 144(2) of the Constitution of Ghana.

The rest of the seven newly appointed Supreme Court Judges are Justice Sir Dennis Dominic Adjei, Justice Philip Bright Mensah, Justice Gbiel Simon Suurbaareh, Justice Janpere Bartels-Kodwo, Justice Hafisata Ameleboba and Justice Kweku Tawiah Ackah-Boafo.

All seven Justices prior to their elevation to the Supreme Court by President Mahama were Court of Appeal Judges.

“To the people of Ghana, we promise that we will dispense justice to all manner of people without fear or favour, ill will or affection,” Mr Justice Dzamefe stated.

“We also promise you equal justice and the law. We pray to the Almighty God to give us the strength, the wisdom, and the courage to fulfill this promise.”

He also thanked Mr Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, the Acting Chief Justice and the other Superior Court Judges for their counseling and guidance through the period of their nomination, Parliamentary vetting and subsequent inauguration.

He also thanked friends and families, especially their spouses and children for being with them through thick and thin.

“The journey for some of us up to today has been exceptionally long, but you never gave up on us,” he said.

“You kept encouraging us, praying for us, and supporting us. You have the faith and confidence that this day will arrive. Finally, it has arrived.”

He said the dreadful questions that their children usually asked them whenever new appointments were made to the Supreme Court was that “Daddy, this time to your name hasn’t come on the list”.

A visibly elated Justice Dzamefe said: “Today is over. To our children, our name has come now. But then, this is a lesson for us. This is the surest confirmation of the oft-quoted cliche that God’s time is always the best.”

“We pray that the good Lord gives us the strength to do this job given us.”

Present at the event were Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang and Mr Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, the Acting Chief Justice.

Others were Mr Edward Korbly Doe Adjaho, Chairman of the Council of State and Mr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, Attorney-General and Minister of Justice.

Also present were members of the General Legal Council, justices of the Supreme Court, members of the Association of Magistrates and Judges of Ghana and members of the Ghana Bar Association.
