Africa is taking a major step toward stronger, more resilient health systems as the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), African Union Member States and partners convened in Addis Ababa for a landmark continental validation of the Community Health Program Guiding Documents.
The meeting brought together policymakers, public health leaders, community health practitioners, academics and regional stakeholders to validate frameworks designed to accelerate the expansion of community health systems across the continent.
The initiative supports Africa’s ambitious goal of deploying two million Community Health Workers (CHWs) by 2030, recognising their critical role in delivering essential healthcare, strengthening disease surveillance and improving health security at the community level.
The validated frameworks will provide a foundation for discussions at the upcoming High-Level Forum in Abuja, where stakeholders are expected to build further momentum around implementation and investment in community health.
With stronger collaboration among governments, communities and partners, Africa is charting a home-grown path towards resilient, accessible and sustainable health systems.
