Managing Editor of The Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr., has called on Ghanaian journalists to uphold professional ethics, protect public trust and play an active role in shaping the future of digital media.
Kwesi Pratt, speaking at the GJA @77 Anniversary Symposium.
Speaking at the Ghana Journalists Association’s (GJA) 77th anniversary symposium at the British Council in Accra on August 19, 2026, Mr. Pratt said the anniversary was an opportunity to celebrate the GJA’s legacy while preparing the profession for emerging challenges.
He noted that journalists had contributed significantly to Ghana’s independence struggle and democratic development but cautioned that the credibility built over the years must be continuously protected.
“The credibility that Ghanaian journalists have built over seven decades is not a permanent inheritance. It is a daily obligation,” he said.
Mr. Pratt identified misinformation, disinformation, artificial intelligence (AI), economic difficulties and the pressure to publish quickly as major challenges facing the media. He urged journalists to prioritise accuracy, professionalism and responsible use of AI.
He called on the GJA to lead discussions on responsible AI use and advocate for fair compensation for news content used by digital platforms and AI systems, stressing that journalists need sustainable careers for quality journalism to survive.
He also urged the preservation of Ghana’s media heritage, saying historical broadcasting sites could help younger generations understand the media’s contribution to the country’s history.
Mr. Pratt commended successive GJA leaders, journalists, the National Media Commission, media owners and civil society organisations for their contributions to Ghana’s democracy.
