Coach Carlos Queiroz Bids Emotional Farewell to Ghana's Black Stars

Veteran football coach Carlos Queiroz has officially bid farewell to Ghana’s senior national football team, the Black Stars, ending his tenure with a heartfelt message of gratitude, reflection and optimism for the future of Ghanaian football.

In an emotional farewell statement, Queiroz described football as a game that offers lessons in both victory and defeat, saying every challenge presents an opportunity for growth.

“Football, like life, teaches us one timeless lesson: you either win or you learn,” he wrote.

Reflecting on his time in charge, the experienced tactician said he was proud of the progress made with the team, while admitting there remained an ambition to achieve even greater success.

“I leave this journey with pride in what we achieved, but also with the healthy dissatisfaction of those who always wanted more. Reaching a higher level should never be the destination—it should be the beginning of even greater ambitions.”

Queiroz stressed that Ghana’s football future cannot depend solely on performances during matches, arguing that lasting success must be built on strong systems, proper planning and investment in player development.

“The future of the Black Stars will not be built only on the pitch. Black Stars’ success must start off the field by creating the best possible environment to prepare, protect and develop Ghana’s extraordinary football talent,” he noted.

The former coach also expressed appreciation to the leadership of the Ghana Football Association, thanking the association’s President and Board for entrusting him with one of the country’s most prestigious football roles.

“It was an honour and privilege to serve the country and the Black Stars,” he said.

Queiroz paid tribute to his technical team and players, praising their courage, professionalism and unwavering commitment throughout their journey together.

He also acknowledged the passionate support of Ghanaian football fans, admitting that although the team may not have achieved every sporting objective, it had succeeded in restoring pride and respect to the Black Stars on the international stage.

“To the fans, we cannot claim complete sporting satisfaction, but we can proudly say that we honoured the colours of Ghana and restored respect and credibility to the Black Stars on football’s greatest stage.”

Concluding his farewell, Queiroz thanked Ghanaians for their support and expressed confidence that the national team’s best days still lie ahead.

“The journey starts now. To the future.”

His departure marks the end of a significant chapter for the Black Stars, with his farewell serving not only as a message of appreciation but also as a call for sustained investment in the structures that will shape the next generation of Ghanaian football.
