The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has reaffirmed its commitment to youth development and academic excellence through an educational support initiative led by the ECOWAS Club at Assane Seck University of Ziguinchor (UASZ).
As part of a programme initiated by the Communication Directorate of the ECOWAS Commission, the university’s ECOWAS Club organized a comprehensive revision and mentoring session for final-year students of Djignabo High School in Ziguinchor as they prepared for Senegal’s national baccalaureate examinations.

The initiative, held on June 23, came just days before the nationwide examinations scheduled between June 30 and July 3, providing students with an opportunity to consolidate their knowledge, clarify difficult concepts and receive guidance from university students who have successfully navigated the same academic path.
Led by the club’s representative, Ahmet Ndo, members of the ECOWAS Club described the exercise as a timely intervention aimed at easing examination anxiety while boosting students’ confidence and preparedness.
The review sessions covered key examination subjects and encouraged interactive learning, allowing participants to ask questions, share concerns and receive practical advice on examination techniques, time management and effective revision strategies.
Beyond academic preparation, the programme also served to inspire the students by exposing them to university life and encouraging them to pursue higher education. Members of the ECOWAS Club shared personal experiences about their academic journeys, highlighting the importance of discipline, perseverance and hard work.
The initiative reflects ECOWAS’ broader vision of investing in human capital and empowering young people across West Africa through education, mentorship and regional cooperation. By supporting students at a critical stage of their academic journey, the regional bloc continues to promote quality education as a foundation for sustainable development and regional integration.
The ECOWAS Clubs, established in universities across member states, play an important role in promoting awareness of the regional body’s objectives while engaging young people in initiatives that foster leadership, civic responsibility, volunteerism and community development.
For the students of Djignabo High School, the revision programme provided not only academic support but also renewed motivation as they prepared to take one of the most important examinations of their educational careers.
The success of the initiative underscores the growing contribution of ECOWAS youth clubs in strengthening educational outcomes and creating meaningful connections between higher education institutions and their surrounding communities, reinforcing the belief that investing in young people remains one of the region’s strongest pathways to lasting development.
