Demonstrators in Accra.

A group of demonstrators mainly from the opposition New Patriotic Party, (NPP) took to the streets of Accra today to press home their demands on government over issues they say require urgent national attention.

The protesters, carrying placards and chanting slogans, marched through designated routes under police escort before presenting a petition to the appropriate authorities. Security personnel were deployed to ensure the demonstration remained peaceful, with traffic diverted on some roads to facilitate the procession.

Organisers said the protest was intended to draw attention to their concerns and urge government to take swift action. They maintained that the demonstration was peaceful and conducted within the framework of Ghana’s constitutional right to freedom of assembly.

As of the time of reporting, there were no immediate reports of violence or major disturbances. Authorities are expected to study the petition and respond to the issues raised by the demonstrators in the coming days.
