The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has officially launched the Ghana Tourism Information System (GTIS), a landmark digital platform designed to modernize tourism administration, improve sector-wide data management, strengthen regulation, and position Ghana as a more competitive destination within the global tourism industry.

The launch ceremony, held at the Accra City Hotel, brought together key stakeholders in the tourism and hospitality industry, including government officials, development partners, private sector operators, tourism practitioners, management and staff of the GTA, and representatives from related institutions.
The event marked a significant milestone in Ghana’s ongoing efforts to digitize public services and leverage technology to drive growth within the tourism ecosystem.
Speaking at the launch, officials of the GTA described the Ghana Tourism Information System as a transformative digital solution that will improve operational efficiency, support evidence-based policy formulation, enhance licensing and regulatory processes, and provide reliable data for planning and investment decisions within the tourism sector.
According to the Authority, the GTIS is expected to serve as a centralized digital database that captures and manages information on tourism enterprises, industry operators, tourist sites, accommodation facilities, and other relevant stakeholders across the country.
The platform is also expected to streamline registration and licensing procedures, making it easier for tourism businesses to comply with regulatory requirements while improving transparency and accountability in the sector.
Officials noted that the system would help bridge existing gaps in tourism data collection and management, an area that has long posed challenges for sector planning and performance monitoring.
They emphasized that access to accurate and real-time tourism data will support government efforts to attract investment, improve service delivery, monitor industry trends, and develop targeted interventions to boost tourism growth and job creation.
Stakeholders at the event welcomed the initiative, describing it as timely and necessary in an increasingly digital global tourism environment where technology-driven systems are becoming essential for destination management and competitiveness.
Industry players expressed optimism that the GTIS would not only improve coordination within the tourism sector but also enhance Ghana’s visibility and attractiveness to international visitors and investors.
The launch further aligns with Ghana’s broader digital transformation agenda and reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen the tourism industry as a major contributor to economic growth, cultural promotion, and national development.
The GTA reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation and adoption of the system nationwide, urging tourism operators to embrace the platform and actively participate in the digital transition.
The Authority believes the Ghana Tourism Information System will play a critical role in shaping a more resilient, innovative, and data-driven tourism sector capable of meeting international standards and responding effectively to the evolving demands of global travelers.
