Government has moved to allay concerns within the business community over the implementation of its proposed 24-Hour Economy policy, assuring that companies will not be compelled to operate beyond normal working hours.
Presidential Advisor on the initiative, Goosie Tanoh, said the policy is structured around incentives and strategic support, not enforcement. He explained that the goal is to make extended operations attractive and economically viable for businesses willing to participate.
Speaking at a stakeholder engagement in Accra, Mr Tanoh emphasised that the success of the policy depends largely on private sector collaboration. He noted that the government intends to provide a conducive environment through improved security, stable electricity supply, regulatory adjustments and financial support mechanisms.
The 24-Hour Economy policy, he indicated, is aimed at increasing productivity, expanding job opportunities and maximizing the use of national infrastructure. By encouraging businesses to operate in shifts where possible, government expects to stimulate economic activity across key sectors.
Mr Tanoh acknowledged public debate surrounding the initiative but reiterated that the policy will be implemented through dialogue and partnership. He assured business owners that their operational decisions will remain voluntary.
The government believes the initiative could significantly contribute to economic transformation and youth employment if embraced by industry players under favorable conditions.
