The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to improving the quality and effectiveness of the Ghana School Feeding Programme following a monitoring visit to selected schools in the Greater Accra Region.
Leading members of the Ministry’s Advisory Board, Dr. Lartey visited Chorkor Presbyterian Basic School and Chemunaa Basic School to assess the implementation of the programme and ensure that pupils are receiving safe, nutritious and quality meals.
The exercise enabled Board members to gain first-hand insight into the programme’s operations, evaluate the nutritional value and quality of meals served, and engage directly with pupils, teachers and caterers on the impact of the initiative.

The team interacted with school authorities and beneficiaries to gather feedback on how the programme is contributing to school attendance, retention and learning. They also observed meal preparation and service, expressing satisfaction with the quality of food provided and commending caterers and school management for their dedication to supporting children’s nutrition and education.
Addressing the pupils, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey encouraged them to make the most of the opportunity the programme offers by attending school consistently, studying diligently and working towards achieving their dreams.
She described the Ghana School Feeding Programme as one of the Government’s flagship social protection interventions, designed not only to improve children’s nutrition but also to increase school enrolment, enhance attendance, reduce absenteeism and create a better learning environment for pupils across the country.
“The School Feeding Programme is an investment in the future of our children. Every nutritious meal served is a step towards building healthier learners, stronger communities and a more productive nation,” the Minister noted.
Dr. Lartey stressed that while the programme has made significant gains, maintaining high standards remains a priority. She announced that the Ministry would continue to intensify monitoring and accountability mechanisms to ensure strict adherence to operational guidelines, warning that caterers who fail to meet the required standards would face appropriate sanctions.
She explained that recommendations from the monitoring exercise would inform ongoing reforms aimed at improving the programme’s efficiency, transparency and overall impact.
Joining the monitoring exercise were the National Coordinator of the Ghana School Feeding Programme, Hajia Fati Forgor, and the Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, who reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to ensuring the successful implementation of the initiative.
The visit underscores the Government’s resolve to strengthen one of Ghana’s most important social intervention programmes, ensuring that every child has access to nutritious meals that support learning, promote good health and create equal opportunities for educational succe
