It was a night of pride and celebration as GBC’s Doreen Ampofo was crowned Best Female Journalist of the Year at the 29th Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Media Awards, held at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Saturday, November 8, 2025.
The glamorous event, hosted under the distinguished patronage of His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, brought together journalists, media executives, and dignitaries from across the nation to honour excellence in journalism.
Doreen Ampofo, a seasoned broadcaster and one of Ghana’s most respected voices in public service media, received not only the coveted award but also a special cash prize personally presented to her by His Royal Majesty, the Asantehene. The audience erupted in applause as the King congratulated her for her dedication to truth, professionalism, and impactful storytelling.
The GJA President, Albert Dwumfour, praised Doreen and other awardees for upholding the core values of journalism at a time when misinformation poses a major challenge. He emphasized that the awards aimed to encourage journalists to pursue excellence, integrity, and innovation.
The ceremony featured captivating cultural performances and heartfelt speeches, with the grandeur of the Manhyia Palace providing the perfect royal backdrop for the occasion.
Doreen Ampofo’s triumph stood out as one of the evening’s highlights, a symbol of perseverance and excellence in Ghanaian broadcasting. As she proudly held her plaque and cash prize, the moment underscored the bright future of women in media leadership and the continuing rise of credible journalism in Ghana.
