The National Association of Institutional Suppliers (NAIS) has announced plans to stage a picketing protest at the Ministry of Education over an outstanding debt of approximately GH¢50 million owed to its members under the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) programme.
The association says the debt, which dates back to 2023, remains unpaid despite several engagements with government officials and relevant authorities. The affected suppliers are responsible for providing school uniforms, house dresses, and other essential items to public senior high schools across the country.

Speaking on the issue, leaders of the association expressed concern over the prolonged delay in payments, stating that many suppliers are facing severe financial difficulties as a result. They noted that the situation has affected their businesses, disrupted operations, and placed significant pressure on their ability to meet financial obligations.
According to NAIS, the planned protest is intended to draw attention to their concerns and demand the immediate settlement of the outstanding debt. The group believes the government’s failure to honour its financial commitments is undermining the sustainability of businesses that support the implementation of the Free SHS policy.
The association has called on the Ministry of Education and other relevant state institutions to take urgent steps to resolve the issue and prevent further hardship for suppliers. It also appealed to stakeholders and the public to support its demand for the prompt release of the funds.
The picketing exercise is expected to take place at the Ministry of Education in Accra, where suppliers hope their concerns will receive the necessary attention from government officials.
