ECOWAS shares results of Gender Equality Index in New York
The ECOWAS Commission, through its Department of Human Development and Social Affairs and the ECOWAS Centre for Gender Development (CCDG), convened a high-level interactive session to present the results of the ECOWAS Gender Equality Index (ECOGEB) and the Gender Barometer on the margins of the 70th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70). Organised in collaboration with CRES and with the support of the Ford Foundation, the session aimed to promote evidence-based policymaking to address gender inequalities and strengthen inclusive development across West Africa.
Discussions underscored the strategic value of ECOGEB as a regional reference tool for measuring progress, identifying persistent gaps and informing policy decisions. ECOWAS officials and partners emphasized the need for sustained mobilisation around this instrument to advance gender-responsive policies, strengthen data-driven governance and support women’s empowerment across the region.
