In a significant demonstration of regional solidarity and humanitarian commitment, the ECOWAS Resident Representative Office in Liberia has donated a wide range of essential items to elderly citizens, At-Risk youth, and an orphanage. The donation ceremony, held in Monrovia, Liberia on the 17th of September 2025 is part of ECOWAS’ ongoing commitment to highlight inclusiveness by supporting the vulnerable in society.

The event is anchored in ECOWAS broader social protection framework and humanitarian assistance strategy aimed at addressing the needs of marginalized populations within member states.

Liberia’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Cllr. Cole Bangalu, commended ECOWAS for its continued partnership and unwavering support. “This gesture is not just a donation; it is a reaffirmation of ECOWAS’ commitment to Liberia and the broader region” he remarked. “We are particularly grateful for the attention given to At-Risk youth, whose numbers continue to rise and whose needs are urgent.” He appealed for sustained support from ECOWAS, emphasizing that long-term investment in youth empowerment is critical to Liberia’s development and regional stability.
Dr. Ibrahim Nyei, Liberia’s Deputy Minister for International Cooperation, called on ECOWAS to provide support to children left behind to the care of single mothers by ECOMOG peacekeepers after the Liberian civil crisis. Dr. Nyei emphasized that these individuals, many now in their 20s and 30s, should not be forgotten by ECOWAS.
For his part, Mr. Abduallah Chahni, General Manager of the mother of Light Rehabilitation Center, praised the intervention and highlighted its significance. “This support from ECOWAS strengthens our collective mission to safeguard Liberia’s youthful population and provide them with opportunities for growth and transformation” he said. Chahni maintained that drug abuse remains a growing threat for the country’s youthful population, as efforts of such is a timely intervention.
This latest humanitarian outreach is part of ECOWAS 50th anniversary celebration, underscoring ECOWAS’s role as a responsive and people focused institution, committed to fostering inclusive development, resilience, and regional integration across West Africa.
