Czech President Petr Pavel departs home after 3-day state visit

The President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, has departed Ghana after a three-day state visit.

President Pavel was seen off by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah and Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Defence, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Dr Edward Omane Boamah, respectively.

On his arrival on Tuesday, President Pavel was received by Mr. Debrah and senior government officials at the Jubilee Lounge of the Kotoka International Airport.

President Pavel was welcomed to Ghana’s Presidency by President John Dramani Mahama.

The two Presidents held bilateral talks before signing two Memoranda of Understanding.

The MoUs are Political Consultation and Bilateral Air Services Agreement which would pave way for flights between Ghana and the Czech Republic.

The two leaders also discussed the need to expand the frontiers of relations and cooperation between the West African and Eastern European countries.

At a joint press conference, the two leaders expressed worry about the United States of America’s unilateral imposition of tariffs on dozens of countries on goods exported into the US.

On Wednesday, day-two of the visit, President Pavel jointly addressed the Czech-Ghana Business Cooperation Seminar with President Mahama where both countries pledged to deepen the economic ties between them.

He then visited the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park before commissioning a Czech Republic funded 40-bed capacity hospital at Kpone.

A dinner was later held in honor of the Czech President where both leaders had a toast to a renewed friendship which dates back to 1959.
