Ahmed Suale : Suspect faces abetment to commit crime and murder

The Prosecution has amended the charge sheet against the alleged murderer of Investigative Journalist, Ahmed Suale on January 16, 2019. The accused Daniel Owusu Koranteng also known as Amakye now faces two charges of abetment to commit crime and murder. He was previously charged with murder. The accused made his second appearance before the Madina District Court where he was remanded again.

The Defence Lawyer, Kofi Essel’s prayer for bail for the accused was declined by the Court. The Prosecutor Chief Inspector, Nana Afua Bamfoa Bamfo said investigations are ongoing and accordingly urged the Court to refuse the bail to Owusu Koranteng. The facts in the substituted charge sheet indicates that the accused and the late Ahmed Suale both worked at Tiger Eye P.I led by Investigative Journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas. The Prosecution said the accused had close relationship with the deceased and his family before his death.

Sometime in June 2018, tensions allegedly escalated when former MP for Assin Central Kennedy Agyapong broadcasted images of the late Ahmed Suale on his television station and further called for attacks against him. Chief Inspector Bamfo said the deceased later identified the accused as the person who provided Mr. Ken Agyapong with his photographs and allegedly confronted him through WhatsApp. The Court heard that on January 16, 2019, following the publication of Ahmed Suale’s images, he was shot and killed in Madina. The Prosecutor said investigations indicate that the accused person who was privy to the deceased’s residence and possible hideouts, allegedly led two other culprits currently at large to the house where they shot and killed Ahmed Suale.

Chief Inspector Bamfo told the court that call records allegedly placed the accused in Madina near the deceased’s residence before and during the murder. The prosecution also disclosed that further analysis revealed that later that day, after the crime, the accused allegedly bolted from Madina to his residence at Amasaman at about 11:15pm and later fled to the United Kingdom.

The prosecution alleged that during investigations, the accused declined multiple police invitations and subsequently disguised his identity by using someone’s National ID card to change the registration of his SIM card. Accused later returned to Ghana and intelligence led to his arrest at Amasaman on March 15 this year.

Chief Inspector Bamfo informed the Court that the accused allegedly admitted knowing the deceased, visiting Mr. Ken Agyapong, and also taking photographs with the late Ahmed Suale but denied selling the photographs to anyone. The Prosecutor said investigation is underway to arrest the other suspects at large. Case has been adjourned to April 17, this year.
