The High Court in Accra has granted bail in the sum of GH¢30 million to Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, as legal proceedings linked to an extradition request from the United States continue.
The ruling was delivered by the General Jurisdiction 2 Division of the High Court, with the court imposing strict conditions requiring two sureties to be justified before the bail can take effect.
Abu Trica has been in police custody since December 2025, when he was arrested following a request from U.S. authorities. He is alleged to be connected to romance fraud activities, a cybercrime involving deception of individuals through fake online relationships to obtain money.
After his arrest, he was first arraigned at the District Court, where he was remanded into custody. His lawyers later moved to the High Court, filing an application for bail while challenging his continued detention.
The High Court’s decision now offers a pathway to temporary release, though it remains conditional on meeting the financial and surety requirements set by the court.
One of his lawyers, Saani Abdul Salam, speaking to Citi News, confirmed that the legal team is working to satisfy the bail conditions, including securing the required sureties.
Until those conditions are fully met, Abu Trica is expected to remain in custody as extradition and related legal processes continue between Ghanaian authorities and the United States.
The case is expected to return to court in the coming weeks for further directions.
