President Mahama and team at AU Summit
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Ghana is leading the charge for gender equality in Africa, with a strong commitment to empowering women and girls. Speaking at the AU Summit, H.E John Dramani Mahama  emphasized that advancing gender parity is a shared responsibility, crucial for Africa’s development and economic growth.
Madam Mongtari, Special Assistant to President Mahama, Shamima Muslim, Deputy Spokesperson, Gender Minister, Dr. Naa Momo Lartey.
He  highlighted Ghana’s achievements, including:
– Allocating $40 million to the Women’s Development Bank
– Achieving gender parity in school enrollment
– Strengthening institutions for women’s support
– Enacting the Affirmative Action Gender Equity Act with binding targets
In The call to action, President Mahama called on the AU:
to adopt gender-responsive budgeting, implement the AU Convention on Ending Violence Against Women and Girls, and accelerate financial inclusion for women and youth.
He also urged the private sector to align financing with African priorities and treat gender equality as a smart investment.
