Be vigilant during the Christmas holidays, ensure your children are protected and not exposed to exploitation or vices that could derail their overall development. Director, Human Trafficking Secretariat of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Abena Annobea Asare, in a Christmas message entreated all to endeavour to protect children and show kindness, but above all ensure no family member falls victim to Trafficking, during this season of celebration.

”It is not only international that there can be trafficking, but it can also be trafficking internally, especially with Children”.

Madam Annobea Asare advised parents to avoid situations where they could be prosecuted for negligence.

We plead with parents to be vigilant not to neglect their children but to be vigilant and take care of the child, so that they don’t get kidnapped, they don’t stray to places they don’t need to go to for them to be abducted, for them to be sexually harassed or exploited. Because when the child is raped or sexually exploited, it affects them for life. So, we want that prevention to happen.

”And some parents also say oo  it’s my child and I can do anything I want to do with the child. Please, if you kill your child, you will be prosecuted, if you exploit your child, you will be prosecuted”, she reiterated. ”And if you abuse the child and the child has injuries that will affect them physically, emotionally, psychologically that is also an offense, the Director explained.

She advised that in the quest to punish children who may default in one way or the other and in attempting to discipline the children, parents should be self-disciplined, so as not to cause harm to the children.

”I think Christmas is love and so since it’s holiday plus Christmas, and new year, we all need to seek to protect children, let us protect humanity’ she stated.

Madan Annobea Asare highlighted the need to show kindness always especially during the yuletide.

”And so, let’s be kind to each other, we do not need to take advantage of others, people need to show love, and you can show love just by being kind, just by being a neighbor’s keeper, so that in the end, our society will be safe for all of us”, she posited.
