Visit to Institute for Youth with visual impairments in Thies, Senegal

Mrs. Zelma Nobre Fassinou, Resident Representative of ECOWAS in Senegal, led a working visit to the National Institute for the Education and Training of Young Blind Persons (INEFJA) in Thiès, as part of the financial support provided by the West African Health Organization (WAHO) for the development of a support programme aimed at improving the education and training of persons living with visual impairments. The visit brought together administrative authorities, education partners and the ECOWAS Club, and also focused on preparations for the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of ECOWAS in the region.

The institute, which accommodates 160 boarding students and faces several logistical and material constraints, benefits from the support of various institutional and community partners to strengthen its capacity. On the occasion, Mrs. Fassinou reaffirmed ECOWAS’ commitment to supporting human capital development, promoting well-being, and advancing the education of persons living with disabilities.
