Ghanaians will gather this evening at 5pm at the forecourt of the State House for an Evening of Reflections and Memorial in honour of the eight who lost their lives in Wednesday’s helicopter crash at Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region.
The victims, all on official duty were aboard a military aircraft that went down routine operation, sending shockwaves across the nation and plunging the country into mourning.
Defence Minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah and Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, were on the helicopter heading for a national assignment in Obuasi in the Ashanti Region when the disaster struck at Adansi-Brofoyedu in the Adansi Akrofuom District.
The other persons on the flight were the acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, who was on his first official assignment after he was appointed a fortnight ago; a National Vice-Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Samuel Sarpong; a parliamentary candidate in the 2024 elections and Deputy Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Samuel Aboagye; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, the pilot on the helicopter; Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, the co-pilot, and Sergeant Ernest Addo-Mensah, a crew member.
An interdenominational state funeral is expected to be held on Friday, August 15, for the eight at the Black Star Square in Accra.
