President of the Gabonese Republic, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, has paid glowing tribute to Ghana’s late former President, Jerry John Rawlings, describing him as an outstanding African statesman, patriot, and champion of justice whose legacy continues to inspire people across the continent.
During a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the tomb of the late President Rawlings in Accra, President Nguema honoured the memory of the former Ghanaian leader, reflecting on his significant contributions to democracy, good governance, and Pan-African unity.
The Gabonese leader noted that President Rawlings’ unwavering commitment to integrity, accountability, and the welfare of ordinary citizens earned him admiration both within Ghana and across Africa. He said Rawlings’ ideals and leadership continue to serve as a source of inspiration for current and future generations striving for a more united, peaceful, and prosperous continent.
The ceremony formed part of President Nguema’s official visit to Ghana and underscored the strong historical ties and shared aspirations between Ghana and Gabon.
President Jerry John Rawlings, who served as Ghana’s Head of State and later as President under the Fourth Republic, remains widely remembered for his role in shaping Ghana’s democratic journey and his steadfast advocacy for African unity and social justice.
