Vice President Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang has pledged to donate four months of her salary to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund also known as Mahama Cares; an intervention aimed at providing medical care to Ghanaians with critical health needs.
President Mahama disclosed this in an address last night. The public can now donate to the Mahama Cares Health Fund by dialing *255# on any mobile network.
President Mahama called on individuals, businesses, and organizations to contribute generously, stressing that this fund could be a lifeline for many struggling with costly treatments.
To set an example, he has pledged six months of his own salary as seed money. Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has matched this donation, and all presidential appointees have been directed to contribute one month’s salary.
The Mahama Cares Health Fund will not only help pay for treatment and medications but will also support the development of health infrastructure, specialist training, equipment, and medical research.
The ultimate goal is to improve the quality and reach of healthcare across the country.
During the same address, the President reviewed progress on his administration’s 120-day promises, which include the removal of the E-levy, cancellation of the betting tax, and the introduction of a Code of Conduct for political appointees.
“We made promises and we have kept them; our first 120 days have been defined by decisive action, commitment to transparency, and relentless focus on laying the foundation for building the Ghana we want, a just, prosperous, and united Ghana,” President Mahama said.
