Vice President, Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang has paid a working visit to the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, along with the Deputy Minister, the Chief Director, and the Ministry’s staff. I expressed appreciation for the warm reception and commended the Ministry for its dedication to transforming agriculture from subsistence farming into a thriving enterprise and agribusiness sector.

Vice President Meets Agric Minister and his Deputy on measures to address food security in Ghana.The Ministry outlined key interventions to address food security challenges, including high food import bills and previous food inflation pressures. Notable initiatives include the Feed Ghana Programme, strengthening the National Food Buffer Stock system, expanding irrigation and vegetable production, investing in soil and crop testing, and developing value chains through processing and marketing. Efforts to revitalize the poultry sector, support vulnerable women through targeted programs, and establish Farmer Service Centers equipped with tractors and technical support across districts were also highlighted. These efforts are expected to increase productivity, generate employment, and improve access to modern agricultural inputs and services.
In her remarks the The Vice President emphasized that food security remains a core pillar of national development and that Ghana should, to the extent possible, work toward self-sufficiency in food production.
She praised the Ministry’s focus on empowering women and vulnerable groups, and encouraged stronger collaboration with research institutions such as the CSIR to harness innovation and local expertise. The Vice President also stressed the importance of involving Ghanaians in the assembly and maintenance of agricultural machinery to ensure sustainability.
