Vice President, Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang has paid a working visit to the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, as part of efforts to further bridge the Ministries, grasp their operational realities, and demonstrate the full support of the Presidency. Having already visited Health, Education, and Gender, Children & Social Protection, the Vice President has now begun engagements with the Ministries led by women.
She met with directors and some heads of agencies under the Ministry. The Minister, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, briefed the Vice President’s office on the progress so far and the work ahead.
The Vice President said ”It was encouraging to note some significant strides”, including:
• The launch of the Black Star Experience.
• A push to promote local crafts, especially in partnership with corporate Ghana.
• A national photography competition highlighting heritage sites.
• A review of key legal frameworks, including the Ghana Culture Policy and the Ghana Tourism Authority Act.
• Stronger collaboration with the Ghana Statistical Service.
– The promotion of domestic tourism.
She expressed my appreciation for the dedication of the Ministry and its agencies, and encouraged unity, ”as we work to grow the economy”, the Vice President said. She called for the promotion of , ”made-in-Ghana products, because identity and industry should reinforce each other”. She also encouraged closer collaboration with the Food and Drugs Authority to unlock the health and commercial potential of Ghanaian foods, many of which remain under-researched and under-utilized.
”I also urged service providers across the tourism value chain to leverage the 24-Hour Economy framework, which is designed to expand economic activity, create jobs, and decentralize opportunity”.
The Vice President and her team reflected on the importance of language, which shapes expression, markets culture, and maintains identity. She encouraged the Ministry to continue exploring Ghana’s landscapes, fauna, heritage sites, castles, and forts, many of which still hold untapped tourism value and powerful historical narratives.
This was a valuable visit, and ”my doors remain open to support the Ministry whenever possible, Vice President Naana Jane posited.
