Former Minister of Communications and Digitalisation, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has announced her intention to contest for the position of General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party. She made the declaration in a statement posted on her Facebook page to mark her birthday. In her post titled “Dearest Patriots,” Ursula Owusu-Ekuful admitted that the NPP had suffered internal bruises and divisions since losing power, describing the party’s current state as challenging but not hopeless.
She said despite the setbacks, the NPP’s long-standing tradition of resilience and purpose dating back to its founding in Saltpond, would see it rise again. We bring you more.
The former minister described the current National Democratic Congress administration as a “caretaker government” that, in her words, “lied its way into power.” She called for unity and reorganization across all party structures to restore public confidence in the NPP. Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful said she is prepared to lead what she calls a “rescue mission” as the next General Secretary of the party — aimed at rebuilding its strength ahead of the 2028 general elections. She urged members of the party, from polling stations to the diaspora, to join in reshaping and re-energizing the NPP to once again become the party of growth and development.
Ursula Owusu-Ekuful concluded her message with a note of optimism, expressing faith that with unity, God, and the will of the people, the NPP will overcome and return to power.
