The National Union of Tricycle Operators Ghana (NUTOG) has expressed condolence to the family of the late Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, a former First, describing her passing as a monumental loss to the nation.
A statement issued and signed by Mr Emmanuel Kwao Arku, the National Public Relations Officer (PRO) of NUTOG, said it received the information about the death of the former first lady with deep sorrow, saying, “Madam Agyeman-Rawlings dedicated her life to promoting social justice, women’s empowerment, and the welfare of children”.
“The late former First Lady was always championing the development of women and children through her numerous initiatives, particularly the 31st December Women’s Movement, which created opportunities for women’s participation in social and economic life”, it stated.
A copy of the statement made available to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, described the late Nana Agyemang-Rawlings as woman of grace, humility, and compassion whose charming smile, non-partisan attitude, and unifying spirit earned her admiration from all walks of life.
“She was a true mother to the nation and a symbol of unity who believed in peace and progress,” it added, emphasizing that “Madam Agyeman-Rawlings’ legacy should inspire Ghanaians to embrace the values of service, leadership, and commitment to humanity”.
It said, “her contribution to national development, especially in promoting the welfare of women, would remain indelible in Ghana’s history”.
The statement advised members of NUTOG and all tricycle operators in the country to strictly adhere to road safety and ethical conduct, urging them to always appear decent, disciplined, and professional in their work as they played a vital role in the nation’s transport system.
It encouraged the members to cultivate the habit that reflected the care and goodwill President John Dramani Mahama had shown towards tricycle operators, stressing that maintaining discipline, respect, and order will help strengthen the trust between operators, the public, and government.
“By living responsibly and conducting ourselves professionally, the NUTOG members will shame the naysayers who continue to look down on their work and prove that tricycle operators are responsible partners in Ghana’s development,” it stated.
It prayed for strength and comfort for the Rawlings family and the entire nation “during this difficult time,” and reaffirmed their commitment to promoting unity, safety, and responsible operations among all tricycle operators in the country.
