Tourism Minister on drive to champion ‘Visit Volta Region’

Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, is embarking on a nationwide tour of all the tourist sites in Ghana, starting with the Volta Region.

The four-day fieldwork in the Volta Region, which involved all agencies under the Ministry, illustrates a strategic and inclusive approach to institutional development.

During her tour, the Tourism Minister visited many tourist attractions in the Volta Region, including the Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary and Cultural Village, Adaklu, Wli Waterfalls, and many other attractions.

Madam Gomashie was accompanied by her Deputy, Mr Yussif Jajah, the Chief Director of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, CEO’s and their Deputies, and Executive Directors of all the 13 agencies under the Ministry.

A retreat also brought together esteemed former Directors of the Public Services Commission, the Office of the Head of Civil Service, and a distinguished Ambassador from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who provided invaluable orientation and guidance—particularly to newly appointed public servants.

Speaking to the regional staff of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Museums and Monuments Board and the National Commission on Culture in a meeting, Madam Gomashie said it was very important to unearth the tourism potential of the Volta Region, which was her first stop in her tour across the country.

She added that the retreat was to help stakeholders align with the vision of President John Dramani Mahama and also strengthen their capacity to fulfil their mandate in boosting tourism.

“My decision to take the Volta Region as the first point of call of my tour of Ghana as the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts is based on many things.

“One is that in recent times we have heard many talking about the Volta Region being the cradle in which you can find different and diverse topography and tourism potential.

“Together, we aim to explore ways to collaborate in unlocking the full potential of tourism in the region,” said Madam Gomashie.

The Minister also lauded Wode Maya, one of Africa’s top tourism vloggers and Deputy CEO of GTA, Mr Abeiku Santana, for giving the ‘Visit Volta Region’ mantra the needed traction.

Madam Gomashie, together with her entourage , will pay a courtesy call on the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV, to discuss their mission of unearthing the tourism potential in the region.

The Minister, together with CEOs and Executive Directors of all tourism agencies, are expected to tour the other regions in the coming days as the drive towards the development of tourism continues.
