Richard Ellimah is the new Chairman for Public Interest and Accountability Committee, PIAC

The Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) has elected Mr Richard Ellimah, a Natural Resource Governance and Community Analyst, as Chair to serve a one-year term from November 2025 to November 2026.

A statement issued by PIAC and copied to the Ghana News Agency on Tuesday, said Mr Ellimah, who is a PIAC member representing Civil Society Organizations and Community-Based Organizations, was elected by members of the Accountability Committee on Wednesday, November  12, 2025.

“He takes over from Constantine K. M. Kudzedzi, Esq.,” it said.

According to the statement, Mr Ellimah, also a Community Activist and a Development Planner, has almost two decades of civil society experience, particularly in Ghana’s natural resource space.

Commenting on his election, the statement quoted Mr Ellimah as expressing “appreciation to members for the confidence reposed in him and pledging to build on the solid foundation laid by his predecessors to fulfil the mandate of PIAC in promoting transparency and accountability in the management and use of petroleum revenues.”

It noted that at the same meeting, Mr Edward Yaw Afriyie, a Biomedical Scientist who represented the Association of Ghana Industries and the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, was elected Vice Chairperson to serve a one-year term.

He took over from Odeefuo Amoakwa Boadu VIII.

The statement explained that ahead of the election, on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, Mr Samuel Arkhurst, the Coordinating Director, Technical at the Ministry of Finance swore-in five members of PIAC on behalf of the Minister.

It mentioned the members as Mr Christopher Opoku Nyarko, Ghana Extractives Industries Transparency Initiative, Ms Sena Dake, Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana, Mr Zamboanga Rufai Saminu, Ghana Journalists Association, Ms Veronica Adigbo, Ghana Bar Association, and Nana Soglo Alloh IV, National House of Chiefs.

PIAC was established under Section 51 of the Petroleum Revenue Management Act (PRMA), 2011 to among others, monitor and evaluate compliance with the Act. The Committee was inaugurated and commenced work on 15th September, 2011.
