Mr. Richard Kofi Akpokavie has been elected as the President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) and Commonwealth Games Federations. At an election congress held at the Accra International Conference Centre, Mr Akpokavie polled an overwhelming of 44 votes out of 63 valid votes, while his contender, Micheal Odum Aggrey, had 19 votes.
Mr Akpokavie will take over from Ben Nunoo Mensah, who served eight years as the President of the GOC.
The General Secretary race saw Mohammed Muniru Kassim oust incumbent Mohammed Baadae Sahnoon with just a three-vote margin in a closely contested race. Astute sports administrator Mawuko Afadzinu retained his 1st vice president role after going unopposed, likewise Mr. Frederick Otu Lartey, who is running for the second vice role.
The third vice position saw Mr. Ernest Danso, the Chef De Mission of the 13th African Games, beat incumbent Mohammed Mahadi. Mr Evans Yeboah, President of the Badminton Association of Ghana, was elected as treasurer, while the assistant treasurer position was won by Nii Lante Bannerman.
