Two newly elected female leaders of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) shared their experiences on GBC’s Women’s Voice programme as part of discussions on women breaking newsroom ceilings.
Rebecca Ekpe, who was elected Vice President of the GJA, and Bertha Badu Agyei, who was elected Treasurer, appeared on the show on Wednesday, 2nd July, 2025, at 4:00 pm. The discussion, which was hosted by Gloria Anderson, focused on the challenges and opportunities for women within Ghana’s media landscape and the importance of women’s representation in newsroom leadership.
The programme, which aired live on GBC Ghana and streamed on its online platforms, formed part of efforts to highlight the achievements of women who have risen through the ranks within the journalism profession in Ghana.
The discussion addressed issues including gender barriers within newsrooms, strategies for encouraging young women to take up leadership roles in journalism, and the role of the GJA in supporting women journalists across the country.
Rebecca Ekpe and Bertha Badu Agyei’s election into key positions within the GJA was seen as a significant milestone for female representation in the association’s leadership. Their participation in the programme offered viewers insights into their visions for the association and how they intended to support ethical journalism and professional development within the industry.
Women’s Voice remained one of GBC’s flagship programmes aimed at amplifying the voices of women in various sectors while encouraging dialogue around gender equality and women’s empowerment in Ghana.
